NEXT Women’s Resale Boutique is hosting the NEXT Window Display Contest. The contest is open to college students as an opportunity to learn about fashion merchandising, marketing and design.

We are seeking design teams from five colleges/universities. Each team will be given an 11-foot space to create a window display with clothing and accessories from the store. NEXT is a name-brand and designer resale store for women, sizes 0 to 3x. Through April 10th, anyone who visits the store can cast a vote for their favorite display. The team voted as the number one display will receive a $250 gift certificate and the team that places second, will be given a $100 gift certificate. Gift certificate amounts can be split up equally among team members or donated to a charitable organization of the team’s choice.

Our NEXT Window Display Contest is ideal for students in the areas of: Advertising & Marketing, Fine Arts and Design, Fashion Merchandising and similar programs. This is a perfect opportunity for students to take what they are learning in class and apply their knowledge and design skills in a real-world setting including conception, team collaboration, meeting deadlines and successful execution.

·         Students will be allowed to use merchandise from NEXT for their displays. Some restrictions may apply.

·         Just like real life there is always a challenge. NEXT inventory changes daily and designers will need to be up to the task of possibly working with rotating merchandise.  Some items may be kept as permanent parts of the display. Other items may be sold from your display and will be replaced with the most similar/appropriate item in our inventory at the time.

·         Window displays must reflect the upcoming seasons Spring and/or Summer.

·         Creativity is a must!

·         So is neatness. Displays will be created during regular store hours.

·         Each team will be responsible for not damaging store items used in their displays.

·         The addition of outside fabrics (but not clothing), signs or window paintings that coordinate with the branding of NEXT are permitted.

·         A minimum of 3 people are required per team.

·         Each team must appoint a faculty member as an advisor to their team.

·         Window concept sketches will need to be pre-approved by the team advisor and submitted to NEXT no later than March 22th.

·         Window displays can be created between 10am-6pm, Saturday, March 27^th or between noon and 4pm, Sunday, March 28^th. We will ask that you confirm your time frame ahead of time so all 5 teams are not working at once.

·         Each team will have 4 hours to create their display.

·         Voting will end on our 6^th birthday and one year anniversary of our new location, Saturday, April 10^th.

·         Winners will be announced via NEXT’s website, Twitter and our Facebook fan page.

·          “Shopping” for display items and measuring is encouraged to take place in advance.

·         Dana Colcleasure, NEXT owner, is available to each team for questions about the shop, clientele, etc.

Brightening the day one (or 2) dresses at a time. And maybe a handbag to match.

Yesterday I received an email through NEXTresale.com from someone who had seen our recent feature on Show Me St. Louis. She was inquiring about some of the items featured in the piece and explained as much as she would like to visit the shop in person, she lives almost an hour away and is home-bound due to illness.

I responded to her email with some basic information about the things she had seen and asked if she could get photos on a cell phone and included my personal cell phone number. She quickly texted me and GAME ON! Texted question after question was responded to with instantly texted photographs of dresses, hoodies and handbags along with details on sizes, cut and price. I even gushed about the things in the shop I love most right now. I couldn’t help myself. We were having so much fun!

An hour or so later, our trusty mannequin had gone through a whirlwind of changes, shopping spree details were confirmed and, I’d like to think a new friendship was made.

I can't wait to drop her things in the mail and anxiously await a text, tweet, Facebook message...hearing how much she is enjoying the newest additions to her wardrobe. Even a home-bound girl living in what she calls "her bubble" deserves a beautiful new dress and I'm so glad she realizes that.

Everyday I love what I do. Some days I just love it more.
